In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, Public Affairs Section sponsored Professor Brooks Simpson of Arizona State University who spoke on "Abraham Lincoln and the Definition of American Citizenship" at Kocaeli University in Izmit, as well as at Bahcesehir University and Bogazici University in Istanbul. Student leaders from major universities in Istanbul participated in a lecture entitled "Abraham Lincoln and Leadership" which was held at the Consul General's Residence. NTV, one of the 24-hour news channels in Turkey, ran an interview with Simpson. Bahcesehir University's student newspaper also conducted an interview with the speaker. CD-ROMs produced by the Information Resource Center entitled "The Lincoln Bicentennial" were distributed at each conference venue.
