U.S. Citizen Services

General Information

The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit assists people with American passport renewal and issuance, reports of birth abroad, U.S. citizen registration, notarial services, voter assistance, tax forms, and emergency services for American citizens.

American Citizens Services are available at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara and the U.S. Consulates in Istanbul and Adana.

  ACS public hours: 08:00-12:00, Monday through Thursday by appointment. (closed to the public all day Fridays)

American Citizen Services at the American Consulate General in Istanbul is in the pilot phase of our online appointment system. Starting on December 1, 2009, all customers will be required to make an appointment to avail themselves of American Citizen Services in Istanbul. Our system will allow our clients to plan their visit in advance, ensure shorter wait times, and allow more efficient handling of individual cases. Department of State Establishes Call Center for American Citizens

The Bureau of Consular Affairs Office of Overseas Citizen Services has established a call center to receive inquires regarding the safety and security of American Citizens overseas. It is currently operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, but will go 24 hours if needed in times of crisis. The toll-free phone number in the U.S. is 1-888-407-4747. From outside of America, the call center may be reached by dialing 317-472-2328.

This is a new and additional resource for Americans looking to receive the most up-to-date information without having to make international phone calls. Americans resident in, or visiting Turkey may wish to pass this phone number to their friends and family in the United States who may be worried about them.
