U.S. Science Envoy Dr. Susan Hockfield's Turkey Visit
Breaking the glass ceiling on university Presidencies. U.S. Science Envoy Dr. Susan Hockfield became the first female President of MIT in 2004. While in Istanbul on her first official visit to Turkey, she met with Istanbul Kultur University (IKU) President Dr. Semahat Demir, who became the first female President of IKU in 2012. "Power of Critical Thinking" by Ann Symons
Academic and school librarian, library consultant, former ALA president Ann K. Symons will visit Istanbul during May 13-17 as a part of the Information Literacy Project II – a three-year project carried out by the Innovative Library Initiatives Promotion Group (ILIPG) and Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, and funded by the U.S. State Department Fund for Innovation and Microsoft Turkey.

April 30 marked the second annual International Jazz Day, a U.S. initiative established in 2011 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which described jazz as a "universal music of freedom and creativity."

Pera Film in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul is proud to present a special talk by Professor Richard Peña on the history of American Independent Filmmaking. Peña, Professor of Film Studies at Columbia University, for 25 years served as the Program Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Director of the New York Film Festival since 1988.

Deputy Principal Officer of the American Consulate Istanbul met with 200 middle-school students at Doğa College’s Beykoz Campus and presented to them a brief view of a different America.
