U.S. Consul General Sharon Wiener and Consulate Staff Hold Memorial Service for Slain Turkish Police Officers

U.S. Consul General Sharon Wiener and the US Consulate staff held a memorial service in honor of the three policemen killed in the attack on the U.S. Consulate. During the service, the American flag was lowered to half staff where it remained for the rest of the day. Consul General Wiener praised the police officers for their courage in the line of duty. In her remarks, Consul General Wiener also said, "We express our deepest condolences to the families of the three Turkish police officers killed, as well as their colleagues who were wounded in the attack. We are grateful for their sacrifice and service. The Turkish police responded quickly and effectively. We deeply. appreciate their courage in protecting the American Consulate."
