Maya Lin Visits U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul
Maya Ying Lin, an American artist who has become known for her work in sculpture and landscape art, viewed two of her pieces for the first time at the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul. Ms. Lin is world renowned for having designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the mall in Washington, DC.
Ms. Lin inspected her two pieces of art work that grace the consulate grounds: the equatorial sundial, which is found at the center of the circular drive, and the analemmatic sundial, which is situated in the inner courtyard. She also met with Consul General Sharon Wiener and Public Affairs Officer Craig Kuehl.
The Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE) commissioned the artist to design the two sundials for the grounds of the new United States Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey as part of its millennium Gift to the Nation, The sundials were dedicated on June 12, 2003 upon the opening of the new Consulate General building in Istinye.
