National Library Week Programs

March 28-31, 2006

American Information Resource Center (AIRC) in Istanbul reaches out with the 42nd National Library Week Programs: U.S. speaker Dr. Denise Bedford, Thesaurus Manager and Senior Information Officer of World Bank Group, gave a presentation "Digital Information Management: Metadata Applications" to information professionals at ITU on March 28th.

In cooperation with Kocaeli Culture and Tourism Directorate, the Bursa Greater City Municipality and the American Corner in Bursa, AIRC Istanbul organized programs on American children's literature and U.S. Internet resources for children at the Kocaeli Public Library and Bursa City Library in celebration of the 42nd National Library Week. The March 30th and 31st events featured readings from Tom Sawyer, both in Turkish and in English, by two Consulate-community children to two groups of students, teachers, city officials and librarians. The readings were accompanied by a power point presentation of related illustrations. AIRC staff and the American Corner Coordinator in Bursa also demonstrated U.S. government websites designed for children. Consulate presented book sets on American history, politics, arts and sports to both libraries.
