U.S. Speaker Discusses Anti-Americanism In Turkey

James W. Ceaser, professor of government at the University of Virginia, spent a week in Turkey, March 7-13, to make presentations on anti-Americanism and the U.S. in world opinion, as well as on post-election U.S. domestic policies. Dr. Ceaser gave a lecture on the U.S. Presidency to students in a participatory democracy program organized by the ARI Movement, an NGO whose mission is promote civil society and participatory democracy, and also lectured at Bilkent University to graduate students in American history and international relations on U.S domestic policy. On March 9, he traveled to Gaziantep for a program sponsored by Consulate Adana, the Gaziantep American Corner, and the Gaziantep Rotary Club. Speaking to an audience of government, business and academic leaders, he discussed the intellectual roots of anti-American thought and explored several themes of global anti-Americanism. In Istanbul, March 10-13, he gave a lecture to academics and researchers at the Islamic Research Center, as well as to students and faculty members at Bosphorous University.
