Jazz Ambassadors Return to Turkey

Jazz Ambassadors “Roseanna Vitro and Her Trio” returned to Turkey November 14-22, 2005, to participate in the 4^th annual Ankara International Jazz Festival and to give concerts and master classes in Istanbul, Ankara and Adana. 

The tour started in Istanbul with master classes for vocalists and instrumentalists for students from Bilgi University’s jazz department and the Istanbul University conservatory.  On November 16, the jazz artists were special guests on TV8’s nationally broadcast live 45-minute jazz program, where they talked about jazz and performed several numbers.  Later they traveled to the neighboring province of Kocaeli for a public concert at the Izmit Municipality’s Suleyman Demirel Cultural Center, co-sponsored by the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry and the Istanbul Consulate. 

In Ankara, the group gave master classes at the Ankara State Conservatory for more than 100 students, including a few lucky vocalists and instrumentalists who had an opportunity to sing or play with the group.  Following an onstage workshop for young musicians, the artists performed for an audience of jazz lovers as part of the Ankara International Jazz Festival on November 18.  The Ankara Jazz Society donated the proceeds from the concert to the Preservation Hall New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund. 

In Adana, the group was hosted by the State Conservatory at Cukurova University, where they gave a public concert on November 20 attended by the Mayor and guests from as far away as Antakya and Gaziantep.
