American Information Resource Center

Welcome to the American Information Resource Center (AIRC). The AIRC is a component of the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul. Our aim is to provide current and authoritative information on the U.S. through a wide variety of online databases. The AIRC has access to a tremendous amount of electronic resources on foreign and domestic policy, social, economic and political issues and legislative developments, as well as the people, history, culture, values and institutions of the United States.

We invite you to visit the AIRC during working hours on an appointment basis and to use our facilities for online research with the assistance of our Information Resource Specialists.

Following are the online databases available at the AIRC:

Lexis-Nexis: A legislative service that provides on-line access to U.S. federal legislation using a variety of reference and full-text databases.

Gale Virtual Reference Library: Incorporates 15 of the Gale Group’s general reference databases, including the Encyclopedia of Associations. Allows access to more than 320,000 directory entries for associations, research centers, publishers, print publications, databases, and television and radio stations.

Gale Academic and InfoTrac OneFile: Provides full text articles and abstracts on a wide range of topics from hundreds of periodicals.

Proquest Research Library: An interdisciplinary research tool that enables access to full text articles from multiple databases including historical newspapers.

Project MUSE: A unique collaboration between libraries and publishers providing online access to a comprehensive selection of prestigious humanities and social sciences journals. MUSE is also the sole source of complete, full-text versions of titles from many of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies and not-for–profit publishers. At this time, Project MUSE subscriptions are available only to institutions.

CQ Researcher: In-depth, unbiased coverage and original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues of health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy.

Please contact the AIRC staff for an appointment in order to use the above specified resources. Our Information Resource Specialists also provide quick reference assistance and research services and prepare specialized information packages in response to institutional inquiries.

Information Resource Center training and demonstration sessions on the electronic resources can be arranged for groups and individuals upon request. We especially welcome requests from university and high school students, faculty and teachers, NGOs, media, and business and cultural organizations.
