Ice Hockey Clinic with Buzz Schneider in Kocaeli

Buzz Schneider, a member of the 1980 gold medal U.S. Olympic ice hockey team, visited the important economic center of Kocaeli, on the Sea of Marmara. Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality's ice hockey team, Ice Hockey Federation members and the Municipality hosted a lunch for Buzz with the 2008 national champions of the "Stars" league, ages between 10 and 16. The young players had a chance to watch the movie "Miracle," based on the story of the U.S. Olympic ice hockey team’s historic road to the gold at Lake Placid, and ask questions to Buzz about his Olympic experience. U.S. Consulate General Istanbul’s Assistant Public Affairs Officer, Christina Tomlinson, made remarks underlying the importance of sports in cultural history and in dialogue between countries. Buzz spent 90 minutes on the ice with the team and taught them shooting techniques. The Kocaeli team presented Buzz with a jersey as a gift.
