Following her 10-day trip to Africa, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton visited Istanbul to consult with senior Turkish officials on August 11, 2012. The Secretary met with President Gul, Prime Minister Erdoğan, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu and other senior Turkish officials to discuss bilateral and multilateral foreign policy issues.

"Now, no one can predict how soon this regime will finally be brought to an end. But we know the day will come. So our third urgent task is to prepare for what comes next", said Secretary Clinton during the joint press conference with Foreign Minister Davutoğlu after their meeting.

In Istanbul, Secretary Clinton also announced the United States is providing an additional $5.5 million in humanitarian assistance bringing the total U.S. contribution for this crisis to nearly $82 million.
