11th International Istanbul Contemporary Art Biennial in Diyarbakır

Public Affairs Officer Karen Morrissey and Cultural Affairs Assistant Sevil Sezen participated in the parallel education program of the 11th International Istanbul Biennial which was held in Diyarbakır, a city in southeast Turkey with a very rich cultural and historic heritage, September 13-16, 2009. The program was funded by the State Department's Education and Cultural Bureau (ECA). Considered to be one of the most prestigious biennials, the International Istanbul Biennial has expended its presence beyond the limits of the city of Istanbul by organizing a multi-day event in Diyarbakır every two years since 2003. During the event, about 100 artists, academics and students, participated in the lecture by New York art critic Robert C. Morgan and watched videos created for the Biennial by several artists, including American artist Sharon Hayes who participated in the parallel education program in Mardin August 25-27, 2009.
