Seasoned Journalist Inspires Future Turkish Journalists

Deborah Potter, Executive Director of NewsLab, spoke on the principles of independent journalism and how to make difficult decisions in the newsroom to a standing-room-only forum jointly sponsored by Bilgi University's Communications Department and MediaLog, a platform for journalists to discuss issues founded by Yavuz Baydar, Ombudsman of Sabah daily. She gave the same presentation at Istanbul University and Kocaeli University. Ms. Potter also inspired high school students at a Community School to think seriously about careers in journalism. Ms. Potter met with two alumni of International Visitor journalism programs to talk about their experiences. Her "Handbook of Independent Journalism" was distributed in Turkish at all the events.
