Ms. Jones is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Counselor. Ms. Jones entered the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State in April 1982.
Her previous overseas assignments include Buenos Aires, Argentina; Baghdad, Iraq; Damascus, Syria; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She has served in Washington DC in the Department of State’s Executive Secretariat (Operations Center); as Staff Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Near East and South Asia Affairs; as Acting Public Affairs Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Near East Affairs; as the Jordan Desk Officer (International Relations); and as Country Director for the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Just prior to her current assignment, Ms. Jones served on the Board of Examiners for the Foreign Service. She studied Arabic at the Foreign Service Institute in Rosslyn, Virginia and at the Department of State’s Field School in Tunis, Tunisia.
Ms. Jones is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a B.S. in History (magna cum laude) and a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College of the National Defense University, with an M.S. in National Security Strategy. Her languages are Spanish, Arabic and French.
Ms. Jones is married to U.S. Foreign Service Officer Richard G. Olson, currently the Deputy Permanent Representative to U.S. Mission NATO. They have two daughters.
